Kineps

Before lunch, the group gathered in the dining room. Justin shared three bags of a new and native fruit, called Kinep. The Kinep is about the size of a cherry and has a green skin to protect the orange-like fruit. It had a citrusy smell like an orange. To get to the fruit, you need to bite the exterior skin to break through to the fruit. In the center of the orange-like fruit there is a large seed/pit. To work around the pit you can suck on the fruit to get the juice and part of the flesh. Everyone enjoyed this fruit as we sat around the dining room waiting for lunch. It was a new experience that was unique to Belize. The only thing that we did NOT enjoy was that all of us wanted to buy a bag and take it home, but with the custom laws, we could not. That is what it makes it unique to Belize. It was an experience that we will never forget.
